Fujairah F3 Independent Power Cold Product Project begins commercial operation

The FUJAIRAH F3 Independent Integrated Product (IPP) project has begun full commercial operation.

Located at the QIDFA site in Fujairah, the 2.4-GWIGAWATT (GW) facility is one of the largest and most efficient gas-fired power plants in the UAE. FUJAIRAH F3 is capable of powering nearly 380,000 homes, delivering reliable electricity while supporting the integration of renewable energy and contributing to the UAE’s energy and energy transition.

Key Milestone in UAE Energy Transition

This plant features state-of-the-art electric turbine technology from Mitsubishi Power, combined with one of the most advanced cycle turbines (CCGT) in the region. With high thermal efficiency, fast response capabilities, and a low emission profile, the Fujairah F3 is an important part of the UAE’s transition to clean and sustainable energy efficiency.

The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (Ewec) is the sole supplier of electricity from the project under a long-term purchase agreement (PPA). Developed under the IPP model, TAQA owns a 40 percent stake in the project company, Marubeni Corporation 20.4 percent, 20 percent with electricity and the remaining percent of electricity.

Andreas Collor, Taqa’s Chief Operating Officer of Generation Business, commented: “The FUJAIRAH F3 IPP is a perfect social access for TAQA in our journey to grow platforms and the wider energy transition in the UAE.

“Fujairah F3 plays an important role in meeting the growing energy demand and will provide low energy flexibility, this plant is a demonstration of our gas power generation capabilities, as we grow our gas portfolio in the future.”

Fujairah F3 plays a key role in implementing Ewec’s long-term strategy to increase the share of renewable and clean energy in the electricity mix. The flexible operation of the plants and the energy efficiency of the energy efficiency including the integration of low renewable energy into the grid, to support a modern, decarbonated system of Energy.

Mohamed Almarzooqi, Ewec’s Chief Logistics and Regulatory Officer, added: “The start of full commercial operations at Fujairah F3 marks a major achievement in the development of Energy’s energy infrastructure.

“This plant provides short-term capacity, supporting the integration of renewable energy consumption while ensuring grid reliability during periods of demand.”

Dr Alyazia Ali al Kuwaiti, Managing Director of Unit Platform of UAE Industries, said: “At Mubadala, we are proud to contribute to the investment of the UAE with the systematic investment in the FUJAIRAH F3 infrastructure.

“This project not only strengthens national energy security but uplifts local communities and accelerates our journey to zero nowe.
