Tesla’s battery end is being recalled for thousands of vehicles in the US

Tesla is recalling 12,9963 vehicles in the US over a battery malfunction that can cause sudden power outages.

The recall affects certain 2025 and 2026 model year models, which may lose acceleration while driving, raising the risk of a crash, the US Lightway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said in a Tuesday release.

About 1% of recalled vehicles are estimated to have the defect, according to NHTSA.

The recall covers 7,955 model year 2026 vehicles between March 15 and Aug. 15, 2025, and 5,038 2025 Model 3 vehicles produced between March 8 and Aug. 12, 2025, according to NHTSA.

The issue involves a battery pack contact made with an Intica Solenoid that can open suddenly due to poor coil termination, NHTSA noted.

“If the contactor opens while the vehicle is driving, the driver loses the ability to apply torque to the vehicle using the accelerator pedal resulting in a loss of traction,” according to NHTSA.

The EV manufacturer will replace the impact battery contact for free. Letters notifying owners are expected to be sent by email on December 9, according to Nhtsa.
