Samsung’s Vision Pro Killer is a cheaper option, but still very expensive

Finally, Samsung has a full moon project, its revenge on the Apple Vision Pro, which we can now officially call the Galaxy XR. The headset was not under threat at this point, given the fact that it was initially shown in January of this year, but now we have all the details, including the biggest thing we knew about it: The price. Without continuing ADO: The cost of the Samsung XR XR Headset * Drum Roll * $ 1,800 …
Which means, as you may have noticed, less money to spend on a headset. It IS It’s cheaper (about half the price) than the Vision Pro with the M5, which still costs $3,500. It’s also $300 more expensive than the first “Pro” headset to make big gaps in its price, the Meta Quest Pro. As a refresher, that short-term head is opposed at $1,500 in 2022, which caused a great stir at the time. While it’s a lot of money to pay for the headset, Samsung at least offers a Vision Pro-Like experience on paper, so I think (based on Apple’s ridiculous prices) It’s action? Kind of?
The Galaxy XR display, like the Vision Pro, is Micro-Oled and clocks in at a resolution of 3,552 x 3,840 pixels per eye. That compares to the Vision Pro, which has a resolution of 3,660 x 200 pixels per eye. The Galaxy XR headset will run at 90hz with a default 72HZ, while Apple’s Vision Pro M5 delivers a higher refresh rate of 120hz. For reference, the Original Vision Pro (with M2 Chip) is output at 100hz and has a standard refresh rate of 90hz.
In addition to the premium display, the Galaxy XR headset also has the same UI in the Vision Pro that focuses on tracking and eye tracking, allowing you to press and hold objects in the visible area without a controller. To be able to see that pro-esque UI, built on Google XR in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm, there are two Hi-res cameras for deflection, four external cameras that offer eye tracking, and a depth sensor. All of that should provide an experience that feels similar to Vision Pro, but if you he did If you want a more traditional-based experience, you can go ahead and buy controllers for an additional $250. If you’re thinking, “Jeez, that brings the price over $2000!” I’m here to tell you that your math is unfortunately correct.

In the battery department, you will also find close. Samsung says that the Galaxy XR headset is rated for 2 hours of normal use and 2.5 hours of video playback, while the PRO for video playback, while the new PRO M5 Chip is rated for 25 hours of normal use. Both headsets use an external battery pack to help reduce weight on your face. Samsung’s Galaxy XR is naturally powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 + Gen 2, which is the new XR chip.
But enough about the hardware now. You might be wondering what you can even do with this head, and before that, there is a similar PROM concept. Samsung says that Android XR is built for all kinds of normal XR things, including gaming and immersive games, and can “view” 2D videos for viewing in 3D on the headset. Given the close partnership with Google, there’s also a visible dose of Gemini here. Samsung says the Galaxy XR headset will include a Gemini Gaming trainer and powerful Gemini-Powered features such as back to search.

There will be several Google services that Samsung says are available for the XR, including Google Photos, YouTube, and my personal favorite… Google Maps. I have absolutely no idea who will hit on the head to use google maps, but Google -nana You’re getting an immersive view from Google Maps, which can be kind of cool to experience on the XR, so I’ll suspend my disbelief until I try Google Maps on Android XR itself.
Another area I want to know is that Samsung will draw comfort. Probably my biggest complaint with the Vision Pro is that it is too heavy, and after long periods of use, it can start to feel uncomfortable around the head and nose. The latest Vision Pro with M5 Chip tries to combat that with a new headstrap with better sync, but the Galaxy XR headset still has the Vision Pro hit in the weight department. According to Samsung, the Galaxy XR weighs 545G, while the latest PROM M5 weighs between 750 to 800g. A lot of comfort comes down to how the weight is distributed, so no winner can be determined by numbers alone.
On paper, Samsung’s Galaxy XR sounds very similar to the Vision Pro, which would be a bad thing, but when you look at the huge difference in price, $1,800 looks pretty good – especially when you look at the headsets out there. If you’re ready to get your hands and face on Samsung’s first flagship, you can buy the Galaxy XR now at samsung.com or at Samsung retail stores. Samsung also offers 24 monthly installments, while Samsung Experience Stores offer both 12 and 24 installment options if the 1,8800 thousand price tag is too much for one place.
