Merck Breaks Ground On Virginia Manufacturing Properties

White House adviser on trade and construction Peter Navarro was told this morning by President Donald Trump Tariffs will cut our credibility in China, supply chains and protect national security with a tough trade policy.
Merck on Monday announced the groundbreaking for its new Virginia Pharmaceutical Desert, the company’s $70 billion Union Investment company.
The 400,000-square-foot site in Elkton, Virginia, is expected to create 500 full-time positions when operational and generate approximately 8,000 jobs during development.
As one of the largest pharmaceutical investments of President Donald Trump’s second term, nsek’s push comes as the administration prioritizes making prescription drugs and reducing foreign drug dependency.
“We are always working with the US management to make sure that we live, in America, the main leader,” Sanat Chattopadhyay, Executive Vice President and President of Merck’s Develop Diagraph told Fox Business. “At the same time, do the best we can for our customers by investing in US manufacturing.”

The new plant will focus on the production of vaccines and essential medicines, including active pharmaceutical ingredients and the production of molecules and energy testing. Merck executives say the facility will serve as an important area for next-generation therapies beyond the company’s established Oncology and PoricKine.
Merck CEO Robert Davis called it “an important milestone for Merck, Virginia, for manufacturing in the United States and, most importantly, for the patients we serve.” He said the investment “helps advance our mission of providing innovative treatment options to people facing major health challenges in the US and around the world.”
The announcement coincides with the White House’s “made in America” pharmacy.

“Medicine is coming back,” Trump told Fox Business’ Maria Bartiromo in the upcoming State of the Union on Sunday. ” “China has been eating lunch. Now, 90% of the drugs we need, the components, are made in China.”
Trump added that the new tariffs help bring manufacturing back to US soil.

“I’m putting tariffs on pharmaceuticals, unless they’re made here, they’re all coming back,” Trump said.
The ElkTen expansion marks Merck’s Fourth Majpy US Project this year, with similar facilities being built in Delaware, North Carolina and Kansas.

Together, Merck’s expansion plan is expected to create more than 48,000 construction-related jobs by 2029.
Between now and 2028, Mernk anticipates that most of the construction will be completed, with production beginning in 2029 and supply operations launched in 2030, according to Dave Modero, Senior Vice President of New Human Health.
