Diane Keaton has made millions of people renovate and restore California buildings

Diane Keaton was best known for her famous career, which spanned six decades, television and theater, but the late Hollywood icon had a successful career.

“I’m following my arrival as much as I did with the practice,” Keaton said of his approach to building a house in 2017 in a 2017 interview with Architectural Digest.

Keaton received recognition for his restoration and home design skills from the architectural community and his work was included in architectural structures that involved grinding high forms, reconciling decoration and his dedication to preserving the authenticity of traditional homes.

In March, the Reortor wrote that the Oscar Winner “has established a profound talent for the home that is out of time, especially when it comes to the restoration of neglected or abandoned places.”

Here’s a look at some of Keaton’s most notable renovation projects.

Samuel-Novarro House in Los Feliz (LA), California

In 1988, Keaton bought the historical house Samuel – the Los Angeles house of Los Feliz. Built in 1928 by the son of the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the house is an example of the Mayan Revival style – including decorative concrete blocks, interior geometry, and interior aesthetic.

The ground floor residence was in a state of disrepair when Keaton bought it, with problems requiring significant repairs and restoration.

When he acquired the home, Keaton underwent a renovation/restore to update it while maintaining its architectural character. He sold the home five years later.

Years later, remodeling contractor Justin Krzyston of StoneHurst Construct took over, dealing with the wear and tear of the finish, structural issues, and fixing the original details.

“I was able to meet Diane Keaton – who lived here in the early 90s, and she gave me great advice on how to restore the year back 20 times, and she told me to be all the years, and not change the integrity of the house and the way it is intended to be.”

The property is often referred to as one of his first “design-driven” flips. Keaton’s restoration of the home established his reputation as a sharp conservative.

In addition, Keaton is also known to be involved in the preservation of the Ennis house, also designed by Lloyd Wright. He served on the Board of the Ennis House Foundation, was active in fundraising, and advocated for its restoration.

Spanish colonial revival in the hills of Beverly Hills, California

In 2007, Keaton purchased an 8,434-square-foot, seven-bedroom, nine-story Spanish Colonial Revival House for $8.1 million.

While living there, he made a restoration with the composer Stephen Sadley. His work was covered in 2008 by Architectural Digest, and reviewed by the outlet in a profile, published on Oct. 13 after his death. According to the outlet, he originally bought the property in the early 2000s but later backed out due to his concerns about the repairs needed.

“My feeling is you find an authentic house and, honestly, try to restore it,” Keaton said during a 1999 tour of the home.

“I wanted a Spanish colony because I’m in love with California and our history. My history would be to continue to buy homes that represent the construction of California and restore them,” he said.

In 2009, he listed the home for $12.995 million, and it was bought by “American Horror Story” Producer Ryan Murphy for $10 million.

SHAW’s Cove House in Laguna Beach, California

Katon purchased the historic Spanish Oceanfront home known as Shaw’s Cove in 2004 for $7.5 million, listed by Andy Stavros of Douglas Elliman Real Estate.

For more than two years, the actor brought home while keeping his Spanish tile, ironwork, wood beams, carved doors, stucco and floors, each marine magazine. The outlet also noted that he changed the wake to increase views and openness in the interior of the house.

The master bedroom was “renovated with a nod to heritage, but reimagined and modernized,” according to the first in the 60s.

In 2006, he sold the home for $12.75 million, marking one of his most profitable flips.

Newman Residence in Pacific Palisades (LA), California

In 2007, Keaton bought a new residence in the Pacific Palisades area of ​​Los Angeles for $9.1 million.

This house was designed by Lloyd Wright (son of Frank Lloyd Wright) for Comporer Alfred Newman in 1950.

His restoration includes an excellent kitchen, restoring the original wood floors and built-in furniture, and converting part of the second floor into a Loft-Wally Loft / Master Suite to bring light and canyon views.

Newman Rience Recience was sold in 2010 for $10.75 million.

Barrio Viejo House in Tucson, Arizona

Keaton’s best-known project outside of California was his house in the Barrio Viego Civikhenge of Tucson, Arizona.

The “God” star bought an 1880s-style Sonoran Adobe Rider in 2018 for $1.5 million.

Keaton completed a high-end renovation that emphasized historic elements and sold the home for approximately $2.6 million in 2020.

During a 2018 appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Keaton discussed his project in Tucson, telling Kimmel he felt the city had been “run down.”

“I’m going to wake up and fix Adobe,” he said at the time. “I just love Tucson.”

“Pinterest house” in Brentwood (LA), California

Keaton’s “House on Pinterest” is his best renovation. The actor wrote about his efforts in his best-selling book “The House Built on Pinterest.”

The house was the result of many years of renovation, complete with a full renovation that he started around 2011. He explained that he “dreams of a home, his drawing,” magazines, and the latest Pinterest to design a living space.

Built mostly of reclaimed brick, steel, and industrial windows, the home combines an industrial feel with a warm, elegant aesthetic. Keaton prioritizes lightness, openness, and material authenticity through raw composition, exposed structure, and radiance. He also clearly noted that he does not use curtains.

“I have always been interested in homes and the concept of home, but the problem is that I have never really felt it and lived. Something is right, because something is right, because I love it.

“I fell in love with the bricks and their structure … Their continuity was not perfect,” he continues.

“My favorite room in my house is that dark kitchen,” Keaton said.

The home became his primary residence for about eight years until his death.

People reports that Keaton surprised many when he put the house on the market, hitting the market for $25 million in March.
