Apple Cut IPhone Air Production as users move into other models
Apple’s iPhone Air is an impressive piece of engineering, but that hasn’t directly translated into explosive sales. According to a new report from the South Korea-based site the Elec, Apple is planning to cut production of the iPhone amid expected demand. Including an analyst from Mizuho Securities, this report conveys that the iPhone’s air production may be returned to about 1 million units.
This, however, should not be taken to mean that iPhone demand is in trouble. On the contrary, the interest in the Entry-Level iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro are always incredibly strong, with both models proving to be more popular than the soft iPhone ultra. At this point, it is said that apple encourages to increase iPhone 17 Production by two million units, iPhone 17 Pro production by one million units, and iPhone 17 Pro Max production by 4 million units. All told, overall sales of the iPhone 17 appear to be strong, consistent with previous reports we’ve seen over the past few weeks.

To be honest, Apple’s decision to reduce the iPhone’s air production is not too surprising. While the device looks and feels great, the value proposition offered by the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro models is simply hard to beat. Indeed, many have said that this year’s iPhone 17 is the best entry-level iPhone in years. As an illustrative example, battery life (as measured by video playback) on the iPhone 16 was a very modest 2 hours over the iPhone 15. That’s a big jump.
Speaking to the popularity of the iPhone 17, shipping estimates for certain configurations are still 2-3 weeks across the US, UK, France, Switzerland, China and Japan. If you want to get the iPhone 17 as soon as possible, you’re better off going with the 256GB model, as a 512GB model appears to be available.
It is also worth noting that iPhone 17 units in China this year reportedly broke records. In addition, 17 units of iPhone 17 in China during the first few minutes of availability are reported to exceed the iPhone 16 preorder volume in its first 24 hours of availability. Apple does not match iPhone sales data by model, but it is possible that we will get more information from the company when it holds its flagship phone later this month.

It is important to note that the spirit of Apple’s iPhone does not have to be a runaway hit. Arguably, it was never designed to be. After all, this device holds a unique and unique position in Apple’s product line. Consider that the device has a notch than the iPhone 17 but has a less impressive camera setup than the iPhone 17 Pro. Price and feature wise, the spirit of the iPhone lives outside the human world.
But that doesn’t matter, because the phone itself is something of a redesign from the long-burning iPhone set. So far, Bloomberg last month reported that the physical iPhone, when open, is like “titanium air titanium titanium side-by-side.”
In a sense, the spirit of the iPhone is a proof of concept. It represents Apple’s continued efforts to improve the form factor without sacrificing processing power or battery life. The invention that enters the air of the iPhone will migrate to the advising iPhone. If all goes according to plan, apple will release the beloved iPhone as part of its 2026 lineup. According to the latest report, however, the launch may be pushed back to 2027, since Apple still hasn’t decided on the final design of the essentials.
